Power Pole Sludge in the tank

Don't remember seeing this posted before. Had to drain my tank to send my HPU to Power Pole for some maintenance, below is a pic of the egg sized piece of sludge that came out of the tank. My Sportsman II manual says that there is no stated change interval for the fluid but only to change if cloudy or milky. My 5 year old fluid wasn't cloudy, it was almost black. Probably checking yearly would be a good idea. BTW, great service from the folks at Power Pole!

has anyone come up with a pump out system to make changing the fluid a little easier?

Do you just drain the reservoir and refill or drain the hydraulic lines also? If so what’s the best way to drain lines? Any other cleaning or maintenance needed?

We like to push the old fluid out of the lines when we do ours. ( not necessary however) Put poles down till about 1 inch from the floor , disconnect power from pumps, remove the lines place them in a container with rag wrapped around the top and manually push the pole up to force the fluid from the lines. It helps if you have a helper holding the container and rag to assure a clean job. Reconnect lines fill reservoir and rebleed pumps. Top off reservoir before your finish.
