Prop for New Merc 4 stroke on 2003 TR21

I am about to pull the trigger on a 250HP 4 stroke Pro XS Merc. I had a 2 stroke 250 HP motor on my boat which I sold. I have a 2003 dual console TR-21. What prop are you guys running that may have this hull and new engine? Thanks!

Why not start with the same prop you had?

According to Don Weed and several others on the 4 stroke page you need to drop down a pitch or two when re-powering with V8 4 stroke
That makes no sense to me.. First off your going to a lower gear ratio---. The V8 turns the same rpm as the 2 stroke it replaced. supposed to have 40% more torque not to mention larger displacement and 2 more cylinders. With all that you should be able to go UP in pitch.
Just be aware it'll take a different set up with the new lower units to get optimum performance.. On my rig with a SM lower unit I have to run a lot higher. I went from a 300XS 2 stroke to a 250R 4 stroke -- Thats giving up FIFTY hp ! I'm still running the same pitch props and have a faster hole shot.

I've heard that most V8's like the Bravo and Promax props.. mine really likes the Promax and loves the Max5.
    Good luck

What prop and pitch did you on your old motor and what kind of motor was it?

I just re-powered my 2004 TR21 with a 250 4 stroke. I was running a 225 optimax with 26" tempest, I asked several people including calling Triton and Mercury factories, and I was told by all of them to drop down a pitch. So I went with the 3 blade 25 Fury, and it is a flat out rocket. I Love it.

25 Fury is actually the same pitch as 26 tempest.

That's cool to know, I always liked the 26" tempest on the 225 optimax.

You probably can run the 26 Tempest, or the 25 Fury. Just depends on your set-up and load.

I am sticking with the 25 for now, no vent plugs, fastest hole shot I have ever seen. Top end seems to be great too.
