Manual jack plate thickness
I know jack plates have horsepower ratings. It looks like the 3/8" thick ones are usually rated up to 150 hp. The 5/8" thick ones are rated up to 300. I'm looking at buying a used manual jp. There is no rating written on it. It measures 3/8" thick. Would it be ok with a 1995 Mercury 175xri on it? The weight for the 150 and 175 are the same. The 150 carbed actually weighs more. Thoughts?

If I wasn't 100% on what it is manufactured to hold I wouldn't trust it. Weight is only part of rating a 175 is going to put more pressure on the plate then a 175.
Post a pic or two of it and someone on here can probably tell you exactly what it is.

There are some really good plates on the market, and there have been some really bad ones.
Under no circumstance would you ever and I mean EVER buy a rite hite, not if but when they'll break.
So if you want a good answer, ask a good question, WHAT plate? Thickness means squat compared to design.

Bought a Vance MFG. Everyone I've seen that's had one, has no complaints and they're a pretty good price.
