Tr-196 2004 new mercury 200 pro xs setup

so I have just purchased a new pro xs 4 stroke 200 and im trying to get it setup correctly the pad height is 2.5" with a 23p trophy prop 4 blade. my hole shot has gotten a lot better but im still experiencing a lot of slip on my holeshot and I have to feather it out of the hole. im wondering if I get an new jackplate with a bigger setback if it will improve my hole shot. I currently have a 6in manual pro hi jacker. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tom

the trophy may not be the best prop for that engine. You probably need a ring on it and/or solid plugs. What jack plate do you have now? 196's prefer 8".

Jason - Question about that 8" plate. How does one know what size to install?

I have a prop ring on it and I have all the holes plugged but one I have heard mixed reviews on the pca olugs for four strokes about how much the affect takeoff

Trophy = Garbage. If you want to run a 4 blade, get a Bravo. Otherwise throw a Fury on it and you'll have much less slip.

Other than the Hole Shot issue, How does it preform? I have thinking about putting one on my TR196.

Best prop on a 196 is a three blade so put a tempest on it and an 8" plate.

Exactly, I've tried about every prop that will fit on mine and 3 blades act best. I run a 27 Tempest on mine and run 5600-5700 RPM and run 72-75 depending on the load. If I'm going to have a heavy load and summer time heat, I'll drop to my 26. I thought the Fury 4 would be a good option and it does handle decent with a good hole shot, but overall handling and performance just isn't there.

I had 2005 tr196 DC. 200 hp merc efi. Had a 27 tempest and a 26 trophy. The trophy ran better for me. On tournament day with 2 people ran 72-73 and on plane in an instant. I did have a metal cavitation plate similar to a cb foil on it

I ran an 05 tr 196 with a 25 trophy 3Inches below pad with a 6" jackplate. Ran well with no slip and touched 70 + when I had the nuts to drive through the chine.
