    Evinrude 88 SPL Year?

Can you help me identify the year or years of this motor. I don't have a model number or serial number. It's an 88 SPL.

Likely 1987-1995-1996. 1988 to 1994 had side venting in the cover/cowl, unless cover has been changed. That thing looks well used. Salt water motor? If it is for sale and you are looking at it, find a model number on the transom mounting bracket so we can verify year,,,,then run.

Only major difference between the 88 Special cross flow and the 90 Hp cross flow was that the 88 Special had conventional fuel pump(pre-mix) and 90 HP had VRO.

If your looking for a motor to re-power your "new project boat/75-115 HP" I would look for a good 60 degree v-4 motor for it. Cross flow V-4's where done around 1998 and if you do find one, usually tired. The 60 degree motors continue on and are plentiful/stout/and can still be found in good shape if yah shop around. JMHO
