California in January.....? for the experts

    Hi guys,

Going out to visit a good friend in the second week of January and we usually fish Berryessa for a few days and stay in the cabins at Markely's cove.

I was thinking maybe to do something different this year and we are thinking about Camanche.

Do any of you guys have any thoughts on Camanche vs. Berryessa.....

    Thanks in advance!!!

    RL

Might want to consider Bullard’s Bar.

I would say New Malones, McClure or Don Pedro in that order.

You ever fish the Delta? I did a job in Stockton, lived in Lodi for 11 months. Brought out my bass boat and fished the area just west of Lodi. Tower Park, and a boats run in every direction from there. It was awesome. Caught more 8 plus bass that year than I can count. Big strippers too. The fog gets crazy in the winter but man there are some huge bass in there!!

I'll second New Melones in January big blacks and big spots on the prowl there that time of year. It is without a doubt one of the best big fish lakes in California, give it a try you will be glad that you did.

Don't forget about Clear Lake. It shouldn't be too far away.

Guess the responses will be dependent on where your home base will be. Some of the current answers are 3 hours or more apart. Comanche will work.

Berry for sure. Comanche wouldn’t make my list at all for January. Delta, Oroville, Shasta, Folsom, Bullard’s all rank well ahead of Comanche. Clear Lake is very tough in the winter, unless you’re freelining shiners.

Depending on weather Clearlake can be tuff in Jan. But you might catch a big one. Won a Jan tournament here with one fish 7.11 Shiner bite is fun though.Crappie will biting also
A lake with spots would be a better choice . Bullards bar in winter is when the big ones are caught. Delta can suck in winter too unless you target the stripers

When I was a member of a local club we fished McClure every January.
The schedule for the remaining 11 months would vary year to year but we always had a consistant bite in January at McClure
