some suggestions for a deer rifle for the wife

I’d go to BPS or the best local gun store and have her hold the different models. One or two will stand out. I don’t think you could go wrong with a youth Rem 700 in .308!

That would not be my first choice. The .308 has a fairly healthy kick. Putting it in a youth rifle will knock her around pretty good unless you're using the reduced recoil loads. 7mm-08 or 6.5 is a better choice in this case IMO

be a great rifle for her if you could find

I bought my 11 year old daughter a compact cva hunter in 243. It is not a youth model so an adult can still shoulder it without issue. My daughter is 5 ft and 100 pounds and she has no issue with it. Gun is super lightweight. Down fall would be the fact that it is a single shot but that was ok with us. Gun, scope, sling and a box of ammo for well under $300.

Been down the AR rabbit hole and don't want to go back there. nothing against them just not what I'm looking for.
and I have a 243 already but I would much rather have her shoot something with a bigger pill than the 243. why im looking at something like the 7mm-08, 308 or 6.5 Creed

If not a 243, the 6.5 Creed is what you want. Also, take a look at the 300 blackout if she isn’t going to be taking super long shots.

now just to find her a rifle she fits well with.
