    Oil question 10w30 vs 25w40

    2019 Mecury 200XL.
    Model #: 12000009A
    Serial #: 2B574260

I'm reading the manual. It says I can use either 10w30 or 25w40. I live in MN and fish in conditions from below freezing to 100 F.

    What oil should I use?

And as a follow up, if I should be using 10w30 - should it be synthetic or not? Manual does not specify.

    Thanks.

The RECOMMENDED oil is 10w30 Synthetic BLEND (Mercury or Quicksilver). That's what came in the engine, and what I would strongly recommend using.

Not a dumb question at all. The later Owner's Manual now actually states "Synthetic Blend" in the run-on sentence that lists oil recommendations.

Mercury or Quicksilver 10w30 Synthetic Blend Fourstroke Oil would be the best option on the list. Anything outside of that should be an FC-W Certified Catalyst Compatable 10w30.

NEVER use Automotive oils, Multi-Viscosity Oils (other than the above specified FC-W BLENDS), full synthetic oils, low quality oils, or oils that contain solid additives.
