Point one for hds gen 3
I just bought a boat with an hds 12 gen 3, is point one worth buying?

If you’re a bank beater it’s not needed. If you fish offshore on humps and ledges it’s great. It allows you to have your map set to heading up and keeps the map from spinning if the boat drifts around. It gives you the ability to always know where your waypoints are relative to your boats position.

Still good for bank beaters if you fish brushpiles/waypoints.

I've got that exact setup (HDS-12 Gen 3) and I wouldn't be without mine!

If you do any drift fishing the HDS will drive you crazy with the spinning screen/boat orientation. The Point One solves that problem. I love my Point One.

Thanks everyone! Does the mounting location matter? Should it be near the hds unit?
Another question, i am not familiar with lowrance at all. There seems to be alot of different options for transducer and structure scan etc. what do i need?

Mount as close as possible to the console transducer.

First priority should be a location free from magnetic interference, second priority: as close as possible to the transducer.
I measured the planned location with the Magnetometer of iNstall app.
For me the spinning screen was not the number 1 reason to get a point-1 (I just used north up to stop that), the number one reason is to be able to see where (one-the-fly) waypoints are relative to the boat heading. I can now mark a fish on sonar, stop the boat and cast right to that fish.
