    Chamberlain opener problem

Will not open. The light is blinking 5 times, I looked on Chamberlain's site, found some trouble shooting tips.
The motor is not making any noise. Motor burned up? Capacitor?
    Model # 41a5483
I plan on tearing into it tomorrow morning.
About a year ago I replaced the drive gear.
Something else, the two light bulbs are not coming on.
Unit is about 17 years old. Is it time too move on? How much more money should I put into this unit, before getting a new one?

Unplug the unit for 20-30 seconds to clear the error code and try again

5 blinks is motor over speed I think. Could be a bad RPM sensor or circuit board. It's past time for a new one go get a wifi built in opener.

Yeah I wouldn't waste my time with it. Its replacement time after 17 years. I have one that old too but not going to put any cash in it when it goes poof.

Doesn't matter the sensors are only for closing the door. He also could have a broken torsion spring. 5 flashes may be excessive force detected. 17 year old opener cut your losses and buy new , the technology is so much better now then 17 years ago.

get a new one with WiFi - 17 years is a lot of opens and closes and the wifi is a great feature to be able to look at phone to see if it is closed and can also set it to auto close - great feature. Easy self install and takes couple of hours

Shouldn’t he verify the spring before proceeding with buying a new opener? Doesn’t seem like a new opener is going to solve a spring problem.

How do I check for a broken torsion spring?

Might leave in a few minutes, and buy this one -

Would going with a 3/4hp, vs a 1/2hp, help it last longer?

Pull the manual release cord and open the door by hand.

if you pull the cord and open the door by hand and it opens pretty easy the springs are probably good.
if it is heavy and hard its most likely got a broken one...

how big of a door are we talking here,,

I saved my Garage Door Opener (20+). I like the classic look of my Craftsman opener. If you can't get it to work, just park a couple classic cars or a New Boat in the Garage. That way you don't have to worry about it till Spring. .

    Remote compatibility?

    IMG_20191116_200259109.jpg

Can you tell by looking, are these remotes compatible, with the new opener in the above link? The two on the outside are the same. I couldn't find any model #'s.

The new opener is installed and operational. It feels weird, opening and closing the garage door and seeing whether or not its open or closed, with your phone.

What's the p/n for the remotes? I think if they are a 3,000 series p/n they will not work. Just push the programming button on the remote and then the learn button on the opener it will program in the first two sequences if it will program at all.
