    Lower unit work

Hey guys, woke up this morning and went out into my garage and smelled the distinct smell of lower gear lube. I knew exactly what it was and found the small puddle under the lower unit. It looks to be coming out the top where the motor bolts onto the lower unit. We thought we could get out one or two more times so I didn’t drain and replace the gear lube. I live in Janesville and am looking for a marine mechanic to fix what I’m hoping is the seals. Also, does anyone have a ballpark on cost to replace the seals?
    thanks. Jesse

Could call Jerry's marina in Beloit, could it be you had water in the LU that froze, might be a bigger issue than just seals, I'm no mechanic just speculation

take the Lower Unit off and run it up to the Boat Doc in Lomira....sounds like seals is a (relatively) cheap fix.

I’m hoping it’s the seals and not the housing but I know my luck with boat stuff.

Nothing yet. Going to take it in in a couple weeks. It’s a busy time of year. I’ll post when I get the diagnosis.

Give Don's Marine in Lodi a shout and ask for Justin Kelley to take a look at it. Amazing at what he does!

I opened up the plug today and had about 75% water. The gear lube is still draining because of the cold. The housing looks intact but the seals are shot.
