    2005 ranger 520 with 225 pro xs

I've never owned a ranger before but am looking at this boat hard. It's also a z520 not regular 520 if that makes a difference. I know the ride will be nice just what kind of speeds can I expect out of this boat? Any other pros and cons?

62- 68 depending on load, some are faster than others, just what it is. I love mine, great platform, rides great to me, I would check the lockers, some have issues some don't,with being soft I have replaced 5 and the deck extension, can't go wrong with this boat, I have had my 4 sons and grandson, and myself fishing off it. JMHO , I am sure others will be along with , there pro's and cons

I was worried about the locker latches because the z 520 was only boat that ever had these. Mu buddy had this boat years ago and he broke the latches alot but was really rough on his stuff. If they fail may be hard to get the parts later on as well. I asked him how fast his went and he said he couldn't remember but thought was upper 60s

Yes the ring style latch will break off, if you have a buddy or co-angler leave the ring up and then step on them. And don't say anything until you notice. But you can still get them as far as I know, but ended up changing the broken ones with the t-handle style chrome.

Are they telling you its a 2005 Z520? If so the Z520 did not come out till 08-09 somewhere in there. After reading your posts I think you have several models mixed up. When you start talking latches the Z19/Z20 and Z21 had specific latches that were only on those models. It was a rail type system.

Now in order to answer the questions that you seek, we must know what the exact boat that you are looking to purchase. Do you have a pic or a listing that we can see the boat?

Joe makes good points. The Z520 is a bigger hull, rated for 250 h.p., and will run entirely differently with a 225 than the earlier 520VX or VS. If you’re looking closely at the boat in question, look on the stern for the model and serial number, to the right of the engine as you face the stern.

It's a 2005 z520 with thr rail type system that opens all the compartments. That's why I was saying that ranger was only one to ever do that and I didnt trust it.

I think if you check further you will find it's a Z20 not Z520.

As stated above,Z 520 didn’t come out until 2008, 2005 model has to be a Z20 or VX 520. The Z boats of that era did have the rail lock systems,VX models had the T handles. Both of these boats were rated for 225 hp.

I had a 2006 z20 with a 200hp etec. I could hit 68 on the GPS when I was alone, 1 full tank and 1 empty and the water had to be perfect. I never had a problem with the latches but I hated them. I owned the boat for 8 years and i still couldn't remember which latch opened which lid.
