    2009 175 HPDI Trim issue

So it would trim down but not up and if lifted, it would very slowly drop all of the way down. Not an electric issue, I popped off the trim motor and found this, there shouldnt be fluid right here should there? If not then please tell me if you have seen this and what I should swap out aside from the trim motor to fix it thanks!

Update: fluid in that spot may be normal but I really cant tell yet, I did open the motor itself and no fluid has made in there. I was really hoping to find the issue here and not have to dig under the rods looking for a problem

I had the same issue this past spring on a 2007 225 HPDI. Mine was also characterized by a rather unpleasant sound when lowering and raising the motor. Tried replacing seals on the rods and adding hydro fluid. Couldn’t figure it out. Brought it to the mechanic and was told the gears in the trim unit were shot. Ended up with a new tilt and trim unit as I was told it would be much more cost effective than replacing parts.
