    97 zx 185c jackplate question

    I just picked up a 97 zx 185c with a Mariner 175 EFI and a 12" jackplate. Is this too much jackplate for an 18.5' boat?

    I have a 98 ZX185c with a Yamaha VMax 150 and the same jack plate.
    Running 58 MPH with a 24p Tempest prop fully loaded.

    jack plate size

    My 97 ZX 185c came with a 12" jack plate from the factory. It was made by Springfield (looked like a square aluminum tube). Very similar in design to the Rite Hite jack plates that are known to shear the side bolts. After shearing the top bolts on either side, I replaced it with a 12" Slidemaster.
