That's the $1000 question. And I don't have that boat nor either of those engines....but have had a 200hp 3.0l ProXS and more recently changed from a 250 ProXS 3.0l to a 250 v8 ProXS. My speed improved by almost 2mph but more importantly the v8's have such a linear hp curve and flat torque curve that it makes the boat much more responsive and lighter feeling especially in mid range & throttle response.

The v8's like rpm and the ProXS versions like to see 6200 rpm. (my 3l went very flat over 6000.) But never having been in 225 EFI...I wouldn't be much help other than to share that the new v8's feel and perform better than the outgoing model.

So you're asking what to expect from a 11% hp reduction. In theory it would not be an 11% speed reduction...but much less. Just a WAG, but possibly 5-6mph...or as little as none. Depends on weight, lower units and what condition you're EFI is in. Chances are a 1998 225 EFI motor isn't making any more hp than a brand new 200 v8.

    Just my opinion.

A lot would depend on "which" 200 V8 Fourstroke (ProXS version would be best option for your Champion).

Performance would be comparable... you would probably end up swinging a 23P Fury or Tempest Plus.

I would expect a moderate improvement in fuel economy, at the least (and considerable torque all the way across the RPM range).

FastCat. Update on the motor situation. I got scared at the last min. and backed out the 4 stroke for 2 reasons. One being it was a 200 and I like the speed i"m at and another was my rating plate on the boat saying V-6. Insurance reasons and tournaments. I did get me a 2018 Pro XS 250 with only 80hrs for almost half the price. This thing feels like its getting the gas mileage compared to that old EFI. Besides being a 2 stroke I'm amazed at the gas mileage. One last thing, its a freaking rocket now. Not quite as fast as your cat but I'm not even gonna tinker with it. 76 with 2 guys and 50 gallons of gas. Nothing else in the boat since I drove 7 hrs to buy and have it put on.

Good deal! What's the serial number on that new (to you) 250?
