    New Cranker Recommendations

Went to the lake this am to do some work on my trailer. Took the boat off, beached 'er, then worked for about two hours. Jumped back in to trailer the boat and no click at all when I turn the key. Did a little troubleshooting. Get home and turn on the VesselView and it shows 12V. Was out yesterday and the motor quit once while running. Didn't think anything of it but maybe that was the first sign of a problem. Last night was the first really cold night around here so my weak battery was "found".

This was a Deka 27 series battery. I forget the model but good specs on this battery and it is my second. I had a lemon from the factory and replaced it first season. I plan on adding a third HDS unit next season. Not trying to start a fight, what would be a good upgrade for the cranking battery? I have a Sam's membership.

Duracell 31 AGM will work well for a 200, but the X2 from Batteries Plus is a step up at almost twice the price.

The battery specs are right and pretty good for a 27. It was the factory, or dealer installed battery so I don't question that it met the requirements. Just went bad.

I added a Northstar AGM series 31 to do my cranking and run my electronics. I run two 12” Solix units and a 12” Helix unit off of it and it’s been amazing.

    great recommendations...

Duracell is the same as a Deka but priced less. It has good cranking amps and good reserve capacity.
X2 is simply a beast on cranking amps and reserve capacity. Their cost is higher than most AGM's but you are getting an excellent battery with a great warranty.
Lithium I have no personal experience but I do know they are out of my price range.

I guess things have changed with the need for more reserve capacity. Have never been a fan of the dual-purpose batteries. My current Deka 27M6 as far as cranking amps compares pretty good against that Slam's battery. I can get the Duracell locally and will likely buy that one at $179.

I have a 2016 with the mercury 200 proxs. They require a specific amount of cranking amps, I think minimum of 800 CCA. I have the Northstar NSBAGM27M and run 2 HDS12's I have fished all day and never have an issue. I paid 220 locally(NJ)
    Good Luck
Also, I run Dekas for my trolling motor and have never had and issue, I have gotten 3yrs so far with no problems. Maybe just a bad run of batteries and you got one.
    Good luck

yep all these electronics suck up the juice, mine is a little extreme so need all I can get, I have some friends running the Duracell and it does great for 2 large graphs and pumps, I have another friend same boat also good results until he added the 3rd big graph then he had to go another route.

Had Duracells on my last boat, AGM 31 for the cranking and electronics. was 3 years old when I sold it with no issues. I'd buy again for the price and performance. With that said I only had 2 graphs, stereo and the other normal pumps etc.....

Got this one. Looks like the badging has changed a couple times on this one, Platinum, Ultra, but the specs are the same.battry.jpg

correct on the badging...I have a Deka that is the same identical battery with the same identical specifications. They are NOT made by Deka or Duracell. A company makes them and supplies them batteries at a set price. It just so happens Duracell's cost less than Deka because Sam's buys in much higher volume which allows them to sell at lower cost to the customer.

You will be pleased with that battery.

I know it looks like a great battery. I couldn't see dropping all those bills when I really don't fish THAT much. It'll be different next year. As I say every year.
