    Question Prop Questions??

I'm running a new 200L 4 Stroke Mercury (SN 2B591535 ) on a Ranger 519 with a Tempest Plus 25P prop with large PVS plugs. Hole shot is fantastic, but at neutral trim I'm getting around 5400 RPM @ 61 mph WOT. Jackplate is set 3" below prop to pad. Should I expect to gain 400 RPM if I drop to a 24P Tempest Plus? Should I consider going to a 23P? I can get more RPM out of it now, but would have to trim up above neutral trim and making it very hard to steer.

Posted this in the prop section, but wanted to ask you guys running 4S's. Yes, I can trim this up higher and get more RPM and speed, but throwing a huge rooster tail and steering is a bear. Trying to get best performance at a manageable steering trim level. I'm only at 6 or so hours on the break in, so I may need to wait and see how the 25P works out after 10 hours.

    Thanks!

Somewhat related question to a previous discussion this week. See a few topics down with the subject 'Prop?' and it might help you in your general direction. Short answer....go down 1-2" of pitch from what you ran on that boat with a 2-stroke.

If your throwing a high tail and steering is hard to Steer at top end your to high on the jack plate . Go down a 1/4” to 1/2” and try again . R tail should only be 3-6 ft high after the speed has maxed out . Neutral trim is not is not how to dail in props based on rpms . Max them out then make adjustments .

Thanks! I've got room to adjust down as much as necessary. I'll drop it and see how it goes.

I'm running a 200 4 stroke (2B591233) Pro XS with a seven hole gear case that I believe is 1.85 ratio and I went from a 21 P prop to a 19 P Tempest + prop and gained only 250 rpm. I went from 5600 to 5850. It's on an aluminium boat so i's not the same but expected to gain more rpm.

23P if you tend to run with the boat loaded heavy.
