1994 champion restoration question
Ok guys, I bought a 1994 champ 190 DC that doesn't have a motor, so while I'm searching I thought the boat could use an update. My question is has anyone ever separated the top cap from the hull and removed the gas tank that is under the seats? If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. This will be my second champion to restore, but not to this extent. Thanks Joe

I have no experience in this. However, removing foam in the pursuit of weight reduction IMO ................ NO ! I Don't think The 190 hull will give much reward for that , not to mention the obvious reason not to do this. Is this a mod you would disclose to a potential buyer down the road ?
I guess maybe to put it a bit more tactfully let me say this. Since you are looking for a motor maybe it makes more sense in the pursuit of speed to add more horsepower than removing flotation in the pursuit of weight reduction.

No need for tact. That was the reason I asked the question here. My other champion 190 was like a sled even with a 200 it wouldn't run past 60. Never knew why. It may have been water logged, I just dont know.

In 1994 the cap was bonded to the hull using a structure material called sikoflex. Cutting them apart would not at all be a fun job. Empty plastic gas tank isn't very heavy, your net gain would be very small.
Find you a good 3.0 motor, we'll get it running way above expectations.

Pat what would you suggest on a good 3.0l motor

Anything but a FICHT motor. Not a Zuke or Honda fan.
