    250 Pro XS Temp Question

    2017 250 Pro XS
    Serial # 2b361266
    30 hrs

I have a general question about motor temps. All my readings are coming from a MercMonitor. I always allow the motor to achieve 130deg before hammering down, and always allow it to equalize, by idling for 2-3 min, after reaching my destination. I notice that when running on pad, between 4,000 to 5,500 rpm, that the temp runs between 118deg to 123deg. This is true when running in 50deg water, or 90deg water. Is this normal?

Normal. Stats only control at low water pressures, poppet controls flow after that. It’s only important that your motor reaches and maintains temp at idle and doesn’t overheat on plane. Too cold on plane is no issue if a seize occurs it will be because the piston heated quickly compared to block/sleeve very unlikely to cool block enough to seize after everything has already come up to temp together. On cold runs in the spring we may see longer run on plane temps of low 90s, some even high 80s, with no issues whatsoever.
