    Replacement Trailer (TR186 w/189TRX)

I have an ‘05 TR186 w/ Marine Master Trailer. I have a little but if rust starting to pop up (cosmetic for the time being) but planning ahead. I found a new ‘18 trailer for a 189TRX for sale for a great price.

My question: is that model trailer even compatible with my hull? Anyone done the same? Pros, cons, etc?

i could get a new one to spec from Marine Master but quoted $4200. The 189TRX one I found is 70% off that.

They didn’t make the 189TRX in 2008 so something is amiss there. At any rate, those boats have different hulls
so unless the bunks can be adjusted, I doubt it will work.

I believe the old 186 Hull is the same as the current 179 TRX. Maybe someone knows if 179 TRX and 189 TRX trailers are close enough?

The place I’m working with has both the 179trx and 189TRX trailers (2018). Can anyone confirm what JLG309 mentioned? The 179 trailer usually doesn’t come with brakes. I was hoping to get a trailer with them but if it meant getting a newer trailer or not, I’m not as worried about that.

Brakes can be added as an option on a 179TRX. Marine Master built the 186 trailers and still has build specs to make a new one.

Thanks. I did speak with Rick at Marine Master and he shared they could build one to spec but when I priced it out with a dealer, it was going to be $3800-4400 depending on options. The new trailers I'm looking at are priced for $1k-1400, I'm just trying to confirm if the bunk configurations work with mine.

I doubled checked that the two trailer options are for 179TRX or 18TRX, not the 189TRX.

The 18TRX and 189trx are exactly the same hull AFAIK, they are basically just different trim levels, just fyi, so the bunks for a 189trx or 18trx would be the same.

Since he has a 186, this does not help him.

To the OP, yes I do believe a trailer for the 179 would would but only Triton or the trailer manufacturer can say for sure.

Thanks. I did call and they redirected me to a lot of folks. Ended up getting ahold of Rick @ Marine Master and he wouldn’t say if one would work to my hull because they would custom make my original trailer to spec of my original trailer.

Hence the questions here. I can’t seem to find the measurements of the bunks for either the 179 or 18/189. This day and age, you’d think that info would be out there but can’t find it anywhere.

So I took measurements of my current trailer and based on the measurements given to me by the person selling, my current TR186 trailer is more closely aligned with the 18/189TRX bunks than the 179TRX bunk configuration. The only variance is 1" between the outer bunks and 2" between the wheel well bunks/fenders.

The guy with the trailers says the 2018 18/189TRX measures: 79" inside the fenders, 14" between inner bunks, 35" between two outer bunks, 4" between inner and outer.
My 2005 TR186 Trailer measures: 77" inside the fenders (maybe slightly more depending on whether its at the top or bottom), 14" between inner bunks, 33" between outer bunks, 4" between bunks. Basically the bunks placement is near identical, with slightly more space (1" on each side) between fenders.

Both are 15'6" from winch to back bunk. The 18/189TRX measures 19'9" in length, the TR186 measures 20'2" in length (slightly longer tongue on 186 trailer).

For reference: He states the 2018 179TRX measures: 78" inside the fenders, 12" between inner bunks, 31" between two outer bunks, 3.5" between inner and outer. 19'3" overall length, 15'6" from winch to bunk.

I'm interested to know the outcome of this! I have an 05 TR-186 and my trailer is starting to rust out also...
