Launched out of Harley at 8 on Sunday. Lot was pretty full - lots of optimists prefishing for MQ I guess. Wind is supposed to blow this weekend so who knows if they’ll run the TX or postpone again.
We hit the firecracker area with the other dozen or so boats. 51-52 degree water temp. Marked a bunch of bait but didn’t get a bite and didn’t see anyone around landing fish so decided to move East. Hit some shallower water the other side of Basset and caught a few 3.5’s on a Jerkbait. The action was pretty slow so ran further East and a bit deeper in the Mitchell’s area. Pulled a few 2 pounders off an area that produced really well in early July. Decided to run back to the mile roads but stop at a few areas on the way.
First area we stop at in 22 fow my buddy hits a 6.37 on his second or third cast with a tube. That was an awesome fish and made the day. Spent an hour looking for her sisters in that area but didn’t get another bite. Ran back to 400 club area and checked a few spots from 18 to 12 fow but couldn’t find a willing fish. Called it a day.
Winterized the Evinrude as we pulled out in case this fall stays shitty. Nice thing about the G2 is you push a button and it self winterizes by increasing the oil mix for 90 seconds. If I fish again, I’ll just winterize again.
Cheers.
