    Jackplate Size vs Performance

I know Bass Cat offers a 3 or 4 inch Jack plate vs the standard 8 inch to help for shorter storage lengths. How much of a difference does the smaller Jack plate have on performance of the boat?

Very little performance difference from what I remember BCB saying before. Especially in the 17/18 foot rigs. You get into the 20 footers with all the weight up front you will benefit from more setback.

Rick did a write up in this years ago. The cat hull does not do as well with more set back so they don't use it.

Thanks for the answers. I'm looking at a P2. I'm going to need the shorter plate to make it fit.

The P-II will perform just fine with a 4" plate. It's already a rocket out of the hole and will be even better with minimal loss on overall performance.

Rick actually prefers the shorter plates when he’s testing. The longer plates run on dirtier water with more spray further from the boat and increase slippage is his theory.
