Remember when America was like this?

I can still remember it. Seems so long ago.

I remember full service gas stations very well but I don't think the ones we went to provided quite that complete of service at the pumps. Wash windows for sure but I always remember them asking if we wanted the oil checked, they didn't do it automatically.

There were way too many god awful things about American society in those days for me to wax poetic.

It was pretty much the same in the 1960's. In High School i worked at an uncles station, would wash windows, check oil, check tires, vacuum floors at the pumps for $2.00 Or $3.00 of gas. Thats about all the tank would hold at $0.15 per gallon.

I wish I grew up back then. Better times I'm sure! I have a gas pump from that era. A really nice Bennett model 966 with all the original parts and original porcelain. Much like the one's at the 5:00 mark. Mine has white doors though. Cool video!

I could not help but look for the colored rest room sign. My second job at 16 was pumping gas at my uncles service station.

It was really cool back then when the adirondacks were showered in acid rain and every lake in the park was sterile. Ah the good ole days

I started driving in Connecticut in the sixties and I think all that was left a full service auto then was Goober on The Andy Griffith Show. I don't mind washing
my own windows and should do it more often. I am guilty of not checking my oil. Modern vehicles just don't seem to use it like they used to.

Yep, worked at one when I was a teenager. Pumped the gas, washed windshield, checked air in tires and checked the oil and battery water. Customer never had to get out of the car.

Remember the stamps they give you, glue them in a small book and you could collect prizes by trading in your books full of stamps!!

Yes the blue chips stamps, I was a kid , but remember my mother taking books in to get stuff. When I was 8, I would push my motorcycle across, old redwood hwy, before it became hwy 101, to the union 76 and get, 50 cents worth of ethyl.

Sounds like Allentown, PA has been in a coma and has no idea what has gone on here in the last 20 and the prospects of it getting better is very slim.
