    2019/2020 189 TRX Top Speeds

Just picked up my 2020 Triton 189 TRX with a mercury 175 pro xs. I was wondering what everyone else is getting for speed with the 175? And what’s your prop to pad? I’m not fully dialed in yet because the motor still needs to be raised as I’m only getting 5400 rpms and about 63.5-64 gps speed with no rooster tail whatsoever.

That is not bad speed. That is 6 to 7mph more than my buddy gets with his 150hp on his TRX189. His is a 58mph boat on a good day

Please keep us posted when you get it dialed in. This is the boat that I’m looking at. I would be happy with those speeds.

Rpm numbers via smartcraft ir analog tach? 5400 rpm seems awful low.

It is, the motor needs to come up more. I’ll post final numbers in two weeks when I have time to dial it in all the way.

    I've got a 2018 18 TRX with 175 Optimax. I'm 3.5 below pad with a 23 Tempest Plus. I'm getting 61 - 62 out of mine. 57 - 58 with tournament load. 5850 RPM's. No rooster tail.

2020 TRX189 with a 150 PRO XS on it. I'm just outside of the break-in period and I'm doing 58 MPH at 6100 RPMs with very nearly the full 600 pound capacity and 3/4 of a tank of gas, so i figure alone and on a half tank I'll probably hit 60. This is without a jackplate, just factory mounted engine. Frankly I'm so happy with it I have absolutely no intention of getting a jackplate.

I'll add that I start walking just a little bit even at 58. Doesn't really bother me, I just come back off the throttle.. most of the time I'm cruising around at 45-50, don't really need that WOT at all times.

I recently purchased my 2020 Triton TRX189 with a 175HP 4 stroke but haven't had a chance to get it out yet. As stated keep us posted but the speed sounds impressive so far. I would be thrilled with the low to mid sixties.

Most 189TRX' run between 56-58 with a Mercury 150 Proxs 4/stroke, the 189TRX with a 175 Mercury Proxs 4/stroke run 62-64, the 18TRX with a Mercury 200 Proxs 4/stroke run 68-70. Some speeds will vary depending on load, prop, elevation, and how the boat is set-up. A 6'' jackplate on the 189TTX does allow you to adjust the plate to get maximum performance, otherwise the engine is mounted in the third hole with a 21 Tempest.

Holeshot is incredibly fast and gets to speed quick, I’ll have final top speed and performance comments this weekend.

I’ve always liked this boat. Everyone pleased so far with everything else? Thinking it would make a great 1st bass boat. Plus be enough to fish high school tournaments when my son is older in 2 years.

This is an amazing first bass boat, coming from an aluminum 18 footer this boat feels way bigger even thought it’s the same size. It carries the width super far into the front deck. Rides well in chop and can carry good speed through it too. The fit and finish is exceptional for the price. If you find one with a 175 snag it up cause it’s quick out of the hole and fast while being fuel efficient.

Most of the dealers I have talked with said they will be ordering all of their 189’s with 175’s from now on.

I'm very happy with my 189TRX as a first bass boat. I feel I got more value out of it than any of the competing 18 footers.
I'm also perfectly happy with my 150 to be honest. Wide open I'm getting up to about 58 but the boat gets real wobbly at those speeds. Not sure I'd want to be pushing into the mid-sixties on the hull although maybe part of my wobble / walk is just coming from the fact that I don't have a jackplate, maybe with a proper set up those speeds feel a little more rational.

Finally got it dialed in today.
    46 degree air
    48 degree water
    light load
    One Guy (200lbs)
    5700 rpm
    65.3 mph on gps
    23 tempest plus
I think it might be overpropped will either try a 22 tempest come spring or a 4 blade possibly.

A little off topic.....but I'm looking at the 189 TRX....I heard it fished bigger with such a wide bow. Question - is it as stable on the bow as I'm hearing. We fish two up front most of the time and hoping it doesn't "dip" down as much as my old TR19. Thanks

I have the 189 trx and I think it fishes great. It was the biggest boat I could fit in my garage and I have no complaints. I have the 150 and it's not a speed demon but it does really well in rougher water. I have fished 2 up front, it's a little crowded for me, but it can be done.
