    Trailer Squeeking

Lately, I've noticed a squeeking/chirping noise coming from my trailer everytime I hit a bump, or a bumpy road. Is it coming from the suspension leaves? Is it OK to grease them? What other possible places could the squeek come from?

Judging by your signature, your trailer is 19 yrs old and is probably in need of new bushings, bolts, hangers, leafs, either each or all since it is now squeaking !! You'll need to pull the wheels off and get a good look at things. Hanger bolts are notorious for wearing the bushing out and then the bolt wearing the bolt hole out as well as even wearing the bolt itself out. Not a difficult job to replace most of the parts. Perfect DYI project !!

    For the OP:
Etrailer.com is a good source for all trailer parts, but I have also had good experiences with BassCat parts department. I did a brake job on my 95 Pantera Classic trailer and the prices were good and service was great.

How do you know if the leaf springs need to be replaced?

you can see a crack or split. Also, one or more leafs will be out of line. It's not uncommon for the center bolt to break off and allow the leafs to move out of place.

Is it the springs that squeak or the shackles and bolts?

Changed out the bushings, hangars and bolts and the trailer is riding quiet again. The bushings were worn all the way thru and started wearing on the hole. The leaf springs looked ok with only a bit of surface rust.

I did loosen the U-bolts that tie the springs to the axle. I was intending on changing those out, but it took a lot of effort to undo the nuts and halfway I said "screw this!" *pun intended*tightened them back up again .

Did you use nylon bushings and standard bolts or did you go the wet bolt and bronze bearing route?
