    491v setup

I have a 481v with a 6in jackplate and a gt175. Needing recommendations on prop side to put on it. Thanks.

Try a 24 Raker. I’m guessing your boat is the 1990-93 481V that is 18’0”. But your thread title says 491V, and the 481 and 491 models of different years are different sizes and hull weights, which affects propping.

4 blade 25 shooter. Absolute best prop for that set up and I just happen to have an extra one I am about to get rid of.

I would agree with the 4 blade 25p shooter. Ran outstanding on my 482v with 175hp.

What were you getting out of your boat with that prop.

I ran mine today with a 14.5x23 raker and I was getting at 5400rpm and 14-15 psi on water gauge I was running 55mph. Will it do and better than that?

I have a 4blade on mine. It’s a 1995 481v with a 175hp Johnson and 8” jackplate. It can do 55mph at 3/4throttle. When I test drove it, it ran 61mph (gps)completely empty and jack plate was set up for 2additional talons. Haven’t ran it full throttle since it’s the motor has been raised though.

Thanks ECobb91. I think the 4 blade is going to be the way to go. I have a gt on mine I know there’s a difference in ours but I think my boat should do more then 55

Don't know your engines history but a solid 175 with the right prop and setup should push 64 gps. Mine ran 67 gps by myself and 65 gps with two people. My engine was a Fastrike a little more torque in the motor prop was a good 25p shooter. My rpm's were 5700. My buddy had the same year model 481 with a 175 Mariner and his would run 64-65 with a 3 blade predator prop. Both of us had 6" plates.

I don’t know much about this kind of stuff so this may be a question that is depending on the boat, but what is your pad to prop measurement on you 481v gonnabe.

I don't know I've never measured it on any boat I have owned. I just set mine up by feel. I do know that on your boat with engine mounted in the second hole from the top with a 6" plate adjust your plate an inch to an inch in a half from being all the way down and you should be close. Sorry I couldn't be more help but I've been doing this so long I just go by how the boat feels when I drive it and what adjustments I need based on how the boat reacts including prop changes to tweet it to the best drive and handling and hole shot. I wish you lived close by id do it for you.

All the Johnson-Evinrude motors I've run like to be in the 5700rpm range. So consider that also even tho some tach vary in accuracy.

I also noticed in a previous post on a different forum you are running an aluminum prop. Use that for a boat anchor and get a good prop. Aluminum is way to inconsistent. Your hull only weighs 1250 lbs and can be set up to be a nice little driving boat. A good start would be a good clean 24-25p shooter prop depending on how strong your motor is.

I have a 25p renegade that would be ideal for that setup.. it is in the props for sale section.

Ok. Ran my boat this am with a 25p shooter. It ran 55 mph at 5300 rpm. I moved my jack plate up to try and get rpms up but nothing really happened. The hole shot it terrible also. Any thoughts?

The gt175 and xp175 were pretty good motors but the had a flaw that you should have checked out and that is head gaskets leaking water. Mine was still under warranty when my head gaskets went out in a tournament started spraying water all over the back of the motor and I lost 300-400 rpm's.

Is this something I can see when I run it on a hose?
