Crappie/Panfish Rod
I am wanting a new crappie/panfish rod and started kicking around the idea of either getting one custom made or even trying to build one myself. 6-6’6”. Mostly throwing 1/32-1/16oz jigs/tubes. I don’t want an overly “whippy” rod but something with a soft tip and decent backbone. Good sensitivity but don’t want to spend $300-400 either. I looked around a little online but that just confused me more. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Top dollar end would be a gloomis imx 782 blank. Its a 6.6" light action with a medium light tip. Pair it up with long foot guides, a 1000 shimano and 4/6# mono and you can sling it out there, with plenty of backbone to set the hook.. If the blank is still available and the price is not to high, go with this one.
Low end would be a Wally Marshal pro series rod. Not a bad rod and still has some back bone. 7'er with about the same action as the loomis. Also not a bad rod for drop shotting for crappie. I think its still available thru BPS.
With throwing 1/32 jigs a light action fast tip will be too stiff. You need a light action with a moderate fast tip.
That or see what Batson can come close to these

I order mine from Utmost Enterprises and get a discounted price. Some other dealers may match that but i'm not sure. These are very good blanks for what you want. The SB will have more power than the SP. I use the SP myself when using the Batson brand for your application. I use the 1 powers as the 0 powers are too soft for me.

You could also look at the NFC FW 601, 602 and the FW 661 and 662, Right now they are on sale for 55 per cent off and free shipping which puts them in the 60 to 70 dollar range. I prefer the 602 and 662 for my personal builds.
