Not a current version of the 518 but my 2001 has a massive front deck, great storage, speed (68-72), superb handleability, and all around great fishability. I don’t fish rough water much but what I have been in has surprised me in how it rode.. The trailer has been fine although it’s a single axle.. Ranger support has be outstanding especially with replacing original items. Keep us posted.

I had a 2017 Z518 Intracoastal w/200 Pro XS (Opti) and loved the boat. Handled all types of water and weather conditions. Got it up to 74 MPH (gps) running a Tempest Plus 25P.
Lots of storage. Easy on fuel. Wish they still made it in the Intracoastal model. (Got totaled when a guy hit it while trailing it.)

So, when it’s all said and done, how much total garage space does a guy need for a 518 with a 200 hp?

Mine measures 27 ft with the motor out on a transom saver. That is tight.

I wonder why I always hear the 518 is underpowered with the 150 but the 185 comes with the 150 and is the exact same weight and I don’t hear it’s underpowered?

518L... Phoenix is skinny as a rail, skeeter I am not sure, but I sat in a phoenix 818 and 819 the other day and my 518L was still bigger deck wise and hull wise.... The ranger 518L looks and is just as big as a 520. Its a heavier boat which some say is bad, but you want the smaller boat to be heavier to handle waves etc... Its deck is actually bigger than the bigger Rangers width wise if I am not mistaken, I think the bigger rangers beam is 95" but the 518 is 96" ? ? ? ... Go with the Ranger...

Space is abundant, big water is no problem. The deck is big and has space for two when sight fishing and you're not standing on each other.

You couldn't choose a better platform.
I have a '22 Z519 w/ 150 Pro XS 4S and only see 51-52 mph. My prop is a 22p Fury and PTP is set from Ranger on the manual plate. How you getting 55? Little jealous lol

Any boat is called underpowered if the HP on the boat is less than the max HP on the coast guard plate, it’s not about if the lower HP works to run the boat or not.

Go with Ranger Z518 200 pro xs. Extra power and better take off. Power when boats loaded, plus looks better than 150.

    This 100% I am looking at a Z518 with a 200 now. Wouldn't even consider one with a 150 on it.

I have a 2012 z518c with a 8” Jack plate and a Yamaha 200 SHO. I wanna say with the tongue folded and the engine down, I would need a bit over 23’ to park it in my garage straight.

Do you think the 150 is ample for this boat?

The 185 is a price point boat, rating it for only a 150 keeps it below that price point, even though it could be USCG rated to 200. Value over performance is the priority. The 518, being a more expensive boat to start with, so performance can be a higher priority hence the max USCG rating of 200. If speed is of no concern to the buyer the 518 is certainly functional with a 150, resale value would be hurt however.
