    Sand papering my balls.........

    On a Ram mount.
I'm a true believer of the Blazout mount but unfortunately I can use one on my skeeter without building a wedge under the mount. Winter project list #1.
For now I'm stuck using a Ram and it's beginning to move around no matter how tight I get it.

I heard that using sandpaper will help.
Any tips and/or advice for sanding my Ram mount balls?

not sanding them, get some skateboard grip tape that has an adhesive on it and stick to the ball. do you have the big ball? if so it is solid and you can tighten it to the point it shapes the rubber like a baseball and can not move more than a vibration. none of mine move and even after reinstalling them they are right were they need to be as they have a shape other than round haha

They make a tool for tightening the big ball mounts. Here is a link for the tool.

I bet scuffing the balls and sockets with coarse paper would help a lot....

what size ball mount and what graph do you have on it.
my helix 9 had one of the 1.5" ball mounts on it and it would move a little in the really rough stuff but I put the 2.0" ball on it now and its solid as anything else on the boat.

I’m not sure how yours is configured but here is what I did when I installed my Solix 15 since I already had the Ram mount. I just used an L bracket and rubber stopper from Lowes for a few bucks and made this brace. It's actually a Hurricane L Bracket. I adjusted the unit where I wanted and figured how long I needed to cut the bracket. I drilled a hole large enough so it would go under the wing nut. I recessed the hole in the rubber stopper so the bolt would not make contact with the deck. Just had to cut off the excess by the stopper and paint it. It does NOT budge at all in rough water.

I ran 12” helix on the 2 1/2” ram last year with hardly any issues. I purchased the wrench for the mount and you can crank it down tight.

You don't need to buy the wrench either you can buy a big bolt and nut and use standard wrenches on it as well.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I like the idea of using a nut and bolt and some wenches to tighten it down. This suggestion may make it more secure also.

    Thanks everyone!!

The biggest reason I like using this bracket is I don’t need any special wrenches, wingnuts or anything. I just tighten it normally and it will NOT move at all. The bracket, bolt or stopper would have to break first for it to move and if that happens, I have bigger issues. All I have to do is lower it til the rubber stopper sits on the deck then rotate the unit where I want it & tighten it up. This makes it very easy to set it up in the same position every time.

I’ve never had problem with my D size mount moving with a bow mounted 8” HDS unit. Bought one of these, but rarely use it to tighten.

I’d try the Rustoleum product granite suggested if you still have slippage.
