All composite came out in 2003. If properly sealed and maintained, wood is not an issue! I have had 2 Champs with wood in their construction, a 1990 and a 1999. Zero issues

I've owned several Champions over the years but not since 2008. Saw one I thought I might be interested in but the transom stories have me a little gun shy, so to speak.
    Thanks for the info

The tap test and looking for stains on the gelcoat should confirm the condition of the transom. I had a 1990 and a 1993 prior to my 2007 and nary an issue with either of the Mtn Home transoms.

Its balsa plywood if it gets wet it deteriorates faster than regular plywood. I know just had my 01-196 transom replace by Championship Marine in Spokane Missouri. They use coosa when they rebuild it. They did a great job. I highly recommend them if you need it rebuilt.
