I recently blew my powerhead on my Optimax. Its an 2007 and obviously not under warranty. I'm sure many of you don't really shop around for boat insurance and maybe just bundle with what you have for home or auto. Back 6 years ago I had seen something in the boat insurance forum about travelers insurance covering "mechanical failure." I'll be honest I thought that it sounded "too good to be true" but I called Bob at world wide marine insurance and asked a couple questions and signed up for the policy which had a great yearly rate and included a waiver of depreciation and "mechanical failure coverage"
I know that was a lot of back story. Today I got notified that they're sending me a $10,500 check to cover my powerhead and I only had a $250 deductible. Basically it's like having an extended warranty without having one.
I don't work for travelers, I don't have friends that work for Travelers. If I was you though, I look into getting this coverage so when shit hits the fan, you know you're covered. The person they sent out to inspect my boat and the adjuster were both excellent to work with.
Just sharing my experience so that maybe it helps out a couple people down the road.
