FYI, if your outboard is over 10 yrs old you are not getting the mechanical failure coverage. This straight from Bob Luellen today when I asked him to provide a quote.

When I signed up for the policy my motor was less than 10 years old. If I had an extra $7000 lying around right now I would definitely strap a four stroke motor on the back

A good friend in the insurance biz told me today that typically you can get it if under 10yrs of age and keep it until 20 yrs old.

My home and vehicles are covered with Travelers. I had to find another company cover my boat because Travelers would not properly cover my trailer. Ranger Trails cost a bit more than an EZ Loader to replace.

I currently use Worldwide Marine for my insurance, it is through Progressive. I called this morning and they are supposed to call me back to give me a quote for the Travelers.

Mine is over 10 yrs old, but only has 400 hrs. They should offer it with under 10 yrs or under XXX hrs. My last boat was only 7 yrs but had 600 hrs.

FWIW. I called Travelers for a quote yesterday, Mechanical Failure coverage is indeed included, however...the agent told me that the mechanical failure could not be wear/tear, had to be caused by a covered loss (like on the water sucking up/clogging water intake, and overheating ensuing). Realize the OP had a different experience...may be adjuster dependent, or may be new language in the policy vs his older policy. Would need to see the exact policy language to know for sure.
