Because of high winds and super dry conditions, PG&E is shutting down power to 34 counties in northern Cali.
I'm wondering if the thousands of homeowner generators that will be in use are any less of a threat than the power lines.

I heard it was some 500,000 people.
They did this a couple weeks ago and forgot to tell the customers. Many were left without water due to being on wells and many lost their food in freezers and fridges. PG&E doesn't want to take the blame for starting wild fires.
Wow..... going to be some unhappy customers...how long will they keep it shutdown?
AP article includes this gem:
It could take as many as five days to restore power after the danger has passed because every inch of power line must be checked to make sure it isn't damaged or in danger of sparking a blaze, PG&E said.
How is this in anyway shape or form a solution to a “perceived problem “
You can lead a horticulture,
but you can't make her think.
Kinda what happens when companies get sued. And they are being proactive to not be sued this time.
The people got what they wanted.

Are northern cali's power grids in that bad a shape?
Go Gators!
A few days without power is better than a burnt down house
Naw its just that the state doesnt want to cut any trees. These guys have known about this problem for YEARS. The state allowed PGE to charge customers for the last fire and "fire prevention" I guess that prevention is turning off power?

Here is a great idea, let the forest services do their jobs and go back to controlled burns so wildfires don't break out or are not as severe when they do...
Our place at Clear Lake lost power last night around 1:00am. PGE has sent notifications that the power will be restored tomorrow morning. I don’t have a problem with it. Winds are forecast to be 35mph gusting to 70mph. Also, we haven’t had any rain and all the fuel is bone dry. I’ll bet once it rains these intentional shutdowns will end.
That's what happens when you live in a desert... No rain, thing dry and get crispy, lightening strike, spark from a source, fire... Dan
