Upgrading to gen 3’s from gen 2’s?

What difference will i notice on the 2d from switching to the hw thru hull transducer vs the 83/200 9 20 ducer? Anyone have pictures to show differences in them of fish arches? TIA

Same here, I have used all generations of Helix and Gen 3 has the best 2D ever.

But you can upgrade your 2d on your Helix with a new 2D transducer via a Y cable allot cheaper than buying a whole new system if all your really wanting to do is upgrade your 2d. I did this and I'm very happy.

Can the new dual spectrum thru hull transducer be used on a gen 1 helix? I have a gen1 helix 12 chirp at the console I use strictly for map and thru hull. I also have a solix 12 gen1, if i didnt want to split with a y cable I'm guessing I would have to get a mega+ si solix gen2 transducer to take advantage of the dual spectrum 2d?

No, the first generation units did not get software to make them compatible with the Minnkota MDI or MSI transducers.

If you want Dual Spectrum CHIRP, you need a G2 or G3 model.

Haven’t noticed a difference between gen 2 and 3 in any way.

It's better, but not that much better. Surprised to see ntslam say "Big difference". I'd like to see both side by side to compare.

I think from what I know the difference between a gen 2 mega unit and a gen 3 mega+ unit would be best seen in depth and distance.
I mainly use my Gen 2 unit in 30 fow or less and side imaging at about 75 feet per side
The mega+ units have more power and can show mega images at much deeper depths and side imaging out to 150 feet per side.
For me I'm happy with my Gen 2, if I was fishing deeper or needed to scan wider then the gen 3 sounds like a good option.

For me the 2D is much better and that is what SThomas was asking. The DI is a bit better with an MDI transducer.

This. I’d want to see side by side before I would fork over the dough, but that’s me.

That might be the difference right there. Shooting thru fiberglass vs unobstructed shot directly into the water. Great images Carl!

The first pic was from a 2d transducer and the others were from 2d/di ducer with the splitter cable when HW first came out

Question? Once you hook up a splitter and the hw in-hull transducer doesnt it read from the in-hull hw transducer from then on for 2d?

Yes....the head unit will read both transducers as one. 2d will be coming from the "in hull" 2d ducer

thanks. Wish i had a switch to turn off the in hull when going slow scanning or fishing since it appears the images are better with 2d coming from the si transducer
