    Question Lead Pot Questions

I've been having some issues with my pot lately with dripping. I try everything but the thing that works the most is the temp setting. but the draw with that is sometimes its to low and the lead hardens. does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to correct this issue.

also I clean this pot a couple times of year. what do you guys use to clean your pots?

    thanks!

I take a paperclip and bend one end. I run it in and out of the dispensing hole...with the lead melted and on # 7.
I keep a pouring ladle under it incase any seeps out. I also wear heavy gloves and a pot holder.
I dont have a problem with mine when I clean it out before I start pouring the molds.
I am sure others have a way they clean theirs but that is my way to keep it open and running smooth.

I assume it is a Lee pot. They are notorious for leaking. Keeping the pot at least 2/3 full, using clean lead, and fluxing often worked best for me when I used one.

It’s just a part of pouring lead with $60-$80 pots. I used a .050 buzzbait wire bent with a 90* angle. I finally bought a good pot, but they are not cheap.

Have the same issues with my Lee's pot. Recommendations for a better pot and price range appreciated.

When my pot fails, I may just go to a lead melter and Lyman lead dipper... Will work better on all my molds with wires sticking up. Like spinnerbaits, buzzbaits etc.... This dipper work amazing.

I just gave up and bought a small laddle which has worked well for two years.

Some benefits of the ladle I posted... Bottom pour! No dross goes into the mold like a regular ladle. Stays hot much longer allowing you to do more with it. Has legs to set it down with lead in it if needed, Made to leave in the molten lead. Longer, safer handle. Has a small hole with nipple for much better aim and control.

It is a RCBS for me. I am on my second one. It is not as good as the gen 1 in my opinion.

I have a 40 year old Saeco that still works perfectly. Also the older lymans are very good...bottom line get a quality pot.
