    On line sales tax

Made a purchase from Tackle Warehouse and was charged sales tax. How long has that been going on? Guess it is fairly new or I have not been paying attention.....

I ordered something last week from CA and was charged tax. Figured it was a CA thing since it appears they can't manage money, homeless and illegals.

I bought arod off a guy on ebay about the same time as my Tackle Warehouse order (after 1Oct) and was charged tax as well. Iguess the tax free purchase days are a thing of the past.

Cities & states have been losing a ton of money due to out-of-state online purchases. I figured it would end sooner or later. Not that your property taxes will go down, but it may keep them at bay for a while.

Perhaps they have a location in the state?

So if we order from another state----are they collecting it for and sending it to the state of Texas?? or does the money stay in the state where the purchase is from?

My wife and I were trying to figure that out earlier.

Rod came from Louisiana, California for tackle warehouse both had taxes asessed. I think Cajun tax was like 7%. Tackle warehouse was over 8. I guess it goes to the state the seller is in...?

Government got to get there cut. They have not been getting the state tax off off things sold on line to other states so they passed a law to enforce the sales taxes

Sales tax is paid to the state where the title of the goods transfer to the buyer.

IE, If TW had a brick and mortar store in California and you purchased a rod at that store, you would pay the California sales tax percentage and the sales tax goes to California. Why, the title of the rod passes to you in California when you take possession of the rod.

If you buy that same rod from TW and they ship the rod to Texas to your home, the title passes to you in the state of Texas and you pay Texas sales tax and typically quarterly TW sends the sales tax to the state of Texas.

Now title is not like a car or boat title, but refers to when the owner of the product changes from buyer to seller. If you are in business, that title transfer is a big deal.

All this goes to the Supreme Court decision on Wayfair Versus South Dokota. Look that up for the details on the SC ruling. States had time to implement, so each state had their own start date for the new sales tax collection.
