    Any concrete experts here?

    Need some advice.
July this year i had a 20x30. 5in thick concrete pad poured and then had a prefab building installed. Been parking my boat and truck in it for about a month. Just noticed today the slab has cracked from one side to the other almost in the middle. So I called they guys that did the work and his answer to me was, concrete is going to crack they make some calk you can seal it with. Is this normal? Or should I pursue other actions?
i don’t know a lot about what I should expect from concrete. But I wouldn’t think this is normal.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Two things concrete is guaranteed to do: Get hard, and crack.

Need more info to advise. Some has been mentioned.
How thick is the bed and what size stone?
Any wire and rebar, how much?
Corners will always crack, did they cut the corners and any relief joints?
As to say concrete will always crack is not true if it has been properly done. My garage is 50x60 mono poured, and was poured in 03 and has no cracks. See too many other projects that has no cracks.
All depends on the bed and the finisher.

Lots of ways to pour concrete and things can be done to keep from cracking. If all you got was straight pour concrete on unpacked foundation it is not surprising it cracked.
Had you required a 10 year warranty on no cracks they would have handled it different and you would have paid considerable more for work.

    no relief cuts.
12 tones of dirty crush and run. Not sure what that equals to in thickness
no rebarb they recommend using the fiber reinforced.
    Same company did the grading.

12 ton is not much. No metal is the other problem along with no joints cut. All depends on the contract if you have a leg to stand on. Crappy work and cutting corners just to get the job in my opinion. Get sick of seeing this anymore. Where is the pride in your work anymore., Very difficult to find a contractor that wants to give his client the best available.

If it cracked in the middle, then that’s where they should have sawed a control joint.

Hope none of you guys ever have concrete poured in Texas, I have never seen a house or garage floor scored.

How big is this crack, a tiny hairline or over 1/16”?

Was this a monolithic pour with a foundation or just a slab? All of this sounds wrong. No mention of foundation, no steel, not enough rock, no sawing.

The widest about 1/16” but I’m concerned its only going to get larger.

read it again, slower, it wasn't a house or garage, it sounds like a simple slab

I don't know a thing about concrete. When I built my addition I was going to pour regular concrete with rebar. My buddy who knows concrete talked me into fiber reinforce concrete without rebar. He said it won't crack. Less than a year it cracked.

Contractor came in graded the area formed up with 2x8. Then put down 12 tones of crush and run. The 20x30 5” thick pad cost me 5G. Should I expect more or did I get what I paid for?
