    Gross weight

Can BCB tell me what the weight of boat, motor and trailer is? 1999 Pantera Classic, single console, deck extension, Ultrex T/M, gp24 crank battery, 3 gp29 t/m batteries (all regular wet acid batteries) 20 gal gas and 8 inch rapid jack. 1999 Mercury 2.5 ltr, fuel injection and a 1999 single axle trailer.

I HOPE not. That grossly exceeds the capacity of the single axle trailer. My thinking is 1250 for hull, 400 for motor (older 2.5 as given), 250 for batteries and T.M. for 20 gals of gas @ 6 pounds per gallon gets you another 120 pounds. Maybe 750 or so for single axle trailer. Whatever for tackle puts it at about 3000 pounds. The two load range D tires I am using can each carry about 1600 pounds. I can see a bigger boat (Puma, etc) passing 4K pounds, but not the classic I hope...

Old timer57. You are correct. Then add the trailer and it adds up.

Agreed. Plus, no telling how much water weight gain also. If the OP is looking at buying but wondering about his tow vehicle...….plan on 3800 at least. But if he owns the rig he described, take to some truck scales.

First, boat isn't 1700. The classic weighs 1250 per BassCat's info (old sales brochures).

Again, 1250 boat, 400 for 2.5 liter motor, 250 for T.M. and batteries. 1900 so far. Add 750 for trailer, up to 2650 now. Add whatever else you think appropriate (IE OP mentioned 20 gallons of gas = 120 pounds) and you will get to around 3000 total, MAYBE 3200. I CAT scaled mine before I bought tires, and mine came out at around 2900 pounds on the trailer axle. I assume a 10% balance to give about 300 on the tongue, which would total (at least for mine) roughly 3200 pounds total. I would hesitate to tow a 4000+ pound boat on TWO tires, unless you buy some hefty ones with a 2000+ pound weight capacity. The load range D tires I bought for mine have a max load capacity of 1600 pounds at 65 PSI. It came with load range C tires, which is even less. I'm pretty careful about towing and such. I have a CAT ticket for my boat, and for each axle of our motorhome. Hard to choose proper tires until you know what kind of weight they have to carry at what specific PSI.

BTW if you have ever used a CAT scale, you get one weight per axle. In my case, 3 total. I could have weighed my truck unhooked, then hooked to see what that added for the tongue weight. But I really didn't care. The tire store had asked me "how much weight are you carrying on the trailer axle" so I went to get an accurate answer. I just dug up the CAT ticket and it said 2970 for the boat axle. Tire guy said the load range D tires would work fine and give a 10% margin of safety. They are rated for 1610 pounds per tire at 65 PSI (happened to have the tire spec sheet stapled to the CAT ticket). BTW, minor error for my boat. As it includes a Pro XS 200 which adds another 100 pounds to the total. So my 2970 is about 100 pounds higher than the O.P. here as he has a 2.5 at 400 pounds, rather than a 3.0 opti at 500 pounds.

Now I can't speak for ALL the pantera classics out there, but I at least know what mine is. Can't tell you the tolerance on a CAT scale. But I doubt on that end of the range it is off by 1000 pounds. If it were, I would be blowing tires left and right on long hauls.

Can't speak for anyone else but I don't carry even 50 pounds of tackle. Depth finders don't weigh enough to matter. One of the reasons I specifically bought a classic was that 1250 weight. Gives a pretty shallow draft which helps where I fish a lot.

Sounds about right. Bigger boat, more batteries, probably a tandem trailer with two extra wheels and an extra axle.
