    Jacking up the trailer

After reading the threads about the Dexter wet bolts I am going to install them on my single axle trailer.

Is it best to jack the trailer up by the frame and then support the axle to work on this?

If just working on the hubs or brakes does it matter whether you jack up on the frame or the axle?

I use the axle, but manufacturers tell you not to. Just use the plate or U-bolts on the end to avoid damaging the axle tube. Jacking on the frame takes a lot more lifting to get the tire off the ground.

I was wondering if jacking up on the axle would make it more difficult to get the bolts off and then back on the springs?

It very well could, but you’ll want a jack under the axle as well to hold it in place and line it up.

My thought was to jack up by the frame, put a jack stand under the frame and lower onto it. Then move the jack to the axle and jack that up to where the bolts came out and it wasn’t to far off to get the springs back in place.

I am probably over thinking this, but I can’t help it. That is what I do.

Use 2 jack stands under frame.

Then use the pump jack to move axle as needed.

Do not trust the front wheel jack as a support.

Do not ask how I know.

If i'm working on it at home, ( brakes, bearings ect.) I have a chunk of 6x6 that i stand up right on the floor jack and use the frame to jack up the trailer. I sit a jackstand under the spring, but never sit the trailer down on it.
