Selling a car locally....best way to get paid

Will be selling my wife's car in the next couple of weeks - or at least hope to sell it. Seen a few horror stories of cancelled checks - even cancelled cashiers checks. Should be a local sale. Any ideas on how best to not get in a pickle on payment?

Deeds on how much you’re getting for the car. Cash is always king, but a buyer may not be willing to carry around $20K in cash.

Cash is King or maybe a check taken directly at their financial institution.

Depending on the amount ,cash is always best. Or if buyer is using a check go to yours or there’s local bank. You can always agree that you hold the title until check clears and give buyer a bill of sale.

I always meet at the bank they use. They can write you a personal check that you hand to the teller and turn into a cashiers check, you know its good at that point.

Go to you bank with the person they'll know what to do. Cash always works and done it many times, always worry about counterfeit money........never happened.

Met the guy I bought my BCB from at the bank because a transfer of title was necessary due to him still owing on it.
But, if you own the car outright, and have the title, then cash is king. However, When I sold my M Roadster I met the guy at his bank and had them count out a little over 20K in 100s. I’m not even trusting of cash in hand from a private buyer any more.
Plus, it was really cool seeing all that cash stacked up before I stuffed it in a briefcase and drove 5 blocks to deposit it in my account at my bank. Regardless of the method of payment I’ve always met them at their bank, or mine, to finalize the transaction.

Just remember if you accept cash over $10000 you will have to complete an IRS form to validate it when you deposit it or use it to make a purchase over $10000.

Go his bank and have them transfer the $ to your bank. You might also be able to go to your bank and transfer $ from his bank to yours. In either situation both parties will need their bank account information. Some banks charge a small fee for a bank to bank transfer but you are guaranteed a good transaction because it won't happen unless he has available funds.

#1. Never go by yourself or only with spouse.
#2. Never allow them to meet at your home. Meet in a very public place.
#3. Your friend and yourself should be armed. Better to have and not need then to need and not have. JMO.
#4. CASH is king. Check every bill. Both parties count the cash.
    #5. Sign title(notary if needed)
#6. Wish them a great day and leave.

I have sold two vehicles. Drove to car-max got the offer in writing. I think it was good for 72 hours.

Went home took my stuff out of the vehicle and returned the next. Got my check and feel like I was given a fair deal with no hassle o issues. Good luck.

It's a $7k car...cash or go to their bank and get a cashiers check from the bank itself.....

There is no reason to make it complicated

Cashiers check works just fine. You can call the bank ( during business hours) and verify the funds before you make the transaction.
