4 years retired for me now, luv it. Like they say, it's what you make it. Amazed at how much I like week days, doesn't seem like I'm retired on weekends because everybody is off work then. Fish and golf monday thru friday, let the crowds have it on the weekends.

Not retired yet myself, but I would look at your annual budget- if you can live on 4-5% of your nest egg you should be fine if you are debt free. This is assuming your money is invested in the market.

There are some things I can't say no to.....Like doing things for my 87 year old Mother. But that is better than fishing anyway. Guess I should have kept the other post to myself.

The hard thing about retirement is when you wake up and wonder what you are going to do today.
You are in charge of you, and are now your own manager.

You really need to think about retirement it not all it is cracked up to be.
    No paid vacation days
    No paid holidays
    No overtime pay
No sitting around drinking coffee complaining how hard you work.
No driving to work in nasty weather.

Just 365 days of doing whatever you want. Guess it isn't that bad.

Remember if you do retire there are a couple things you need to do.

    Tell your working friends.

You are so busy you don't know how you had time to work.
Send them photos of you out hunting and fishing. They really like that.
    Tell them you miss working.

    Enjoy it. It don't suck.

I retired 10 years ago or so. Working on things that needed doing for years. Took on some property to keep me busy. I am not the kind of person to just sit back and relax all the time. I have had several serious health problems to go along with it. But all in all I love it. I get up when I feel like it, work on what I feel like, and go fishing and hunting during the week when I feel like it. I have 3 boys and can help them when needed. I have no sense of what day it is. Every day is Saturday. My wife has to tell me what day it is most of the time. Just now getting around to get busy. I used to be at work long before now. Need I say more? It’s wonderful! You will probably be busier than ever but you get to choose your business more. I could fish all I can stand physically but I choose to help my family and friends who need help first.

Retirement is great had a lot of offers to work part time but decided to give being fully retired a try first.

It took about a year before the prospective employers to quit calling. That was a good thing as there was no boredom or desire to work for someone other than myself.

We have no problems staying busy, we travel, spend winters in Texas, still racing kayaks, just got back from a 6 day sea kayak training on Lake Huron. We are leaving for six weeks for a trip that includes visiting friends, Civil War Historical sites, music in Nashville and a race in Chattanooga.

    Who has time to work?
