I currently have a new D31M Optima blue top AGM battery in a battery tray that was made for this battery and dont want to change unless I have to.

Will it work? Yes. Is it the best choice in AGM. Not in my opinion. Since you have a custom battery tray and don't want to change that limits your options.

I ask because don's thread says 975 cca minimum. optima 31 says 900 coca. I have no problem changing battery if I have to.

The group 31 Odyssey is the benchmark AGM battery for marine use. Best performance specifications and warranty. Not cheap and weighs as much as a 10 year old.
Mine last me 5+ years and I've been using them since 2004. Being retired, I get multiple days on the water each week so they get hammered here in tidal water.
Only other battery that comes close is the X2 that is sold thru Batteries+.

No disagreement from me except to say the Northstar 31AGM matches the X2 and Odyssey in CCA, AH, RC and free replacement warranty.

I know that as do you, others here may not which is why I made the distinction.

Just like the Platinum PM-1 & PM-2 sold by Sears were the corresponding Odyssey batteries (31M-PC2150 & 34M-PC1500) in completely different cases. Still have my PM-1, btw, using for routine stuff around home rather than my boat.

Me too, got a better price, no tax, free delivery, no core, than going through Batteries Plus.

Really need 975 CCA as a minimum. For a fishing application- you WILL want more than the "minimum capacity". The Northstar or the X2 mentioned above are great choices.
