Haven't used one in years, but I did use one for years on one of my boats. It must have threaded tightly into the forward position because I don't ever remember having a problem trying to align it in the forward position. I do remember that it did "thread" into the pedestal hole.

I need to gain the 6" rearward. I guess it would
be like spinning a roulette wheel as to where it would
    lock???? LDS

Find an o-ring that fits the shaft and then tighten it down, should be real close to what your looking for

I used one on my old boat to get back further - it did not lock (base was not threaded) and I never had any problems with it turning out of position or anything - it seemed to settle into where it was and was happy being there.

6" was not enough set back. I had to install an extra base 10" to the rear of
    the factory installed base. LDS

I have cleaned out the threads on my seat bases. Seem more like a PITA that what is was worth.
My off set base, works fine without the threads. Once in a while it does feel like a circus ride. But no big deal to me.

I use a 6" offset post. I crossdrilled mine under the deck for a quick pin to keep it from spinning. Greatly improved the room on my vt 17

The post would have been fine, if it had given me
the room I needed. But unfortunately it didn't. That's
the reason it for sale. Just a high priced experiment
    that didn't work. LDS

Its for sale in the classifieds at a bargain. LDS
