    Question for Mr Nichols

    Paul.
I have a 300R coming For my 2018 SST. Was wondering if you'd give an recommendation on some set up options. I still have a choice on gear ratios on a sport master. If the R motor is a lot better on low end tourque than the 300 xs 2 stroke I've got. I was going to go with the 1:60 gears. It seams the sst is pretty weight sensitive on hole shot. I normally run a medium weight tournament boat. No power poles with a 12" manual jack plate. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Todd

Ya I figured 1:60 would probably be best. I'm just not that impressed with the XS now with the hole shot. The 250s actually have a better low end it seams.

I cant speak for a 1.60 gear, but I can speak for the SS/300r with 1.75's.

With my set up w/ 2 poles, I run a 31 promax right at the limiter at 96 mph. There is more to be had, but I dont need it. That's 2 people, 30 gallons of fuel, and moderate tackle load. Tournament morning I see 92 with heavy load (55 GALLONS OF FUEL) at 6200 rpm.

Based on my time so far, a hydraulic jack plate would be a wise investment for you if you could swing it.

Moral of the story- Order you a 32 promax with no poles and go have fun!

It would seem to me I'd have a hard time turning a 32 with 1:60s if your turning a 31 with 1:75s but you are heavier than I run most of the time. I've got a 31 hydromotive that I ran some on my old 20XD /300xs. Thought I'd try it for a awhile. I don't know anything about what this setup is going to be like.

I heard the trick with the SST is less setback to get a better holeshot. I had an SST and to get a big enough prop the hole shot suffered badly with the 4 stroke 300R. I never tried it and traded the boat in but that is what I have heard. Loaded SST with 32 pitch Bravo XS ran 96 with 2 grown men and all my fishing gear with a little more to be had but the hole shot was bad. Again I have heard that this hull likes less setback but I never tested it out personally.

That's pretty much any boat. My 20XD i tried 10-12-14 and every time i added 2" my topend got higher and my holeshot got slower.

lithium batteries, hydrofoil and a negative trim wedge got it all back tho, and then some.

Yes, I was talking 1.75s. I just sold a 31 xob, because I could not turn it.
