You think they fight harder than jacks? I think a 5 pound jack pulls twice as hard as a 5 pound red.

Snook, tarpon, jack. All of those will beat the brakes off a freshwater fish lb for lb.

I like jacks on the fly pole. They’ll hit anything they see and then go apechit crazy. In freshwater carp are the poor man’s bonefish. Sight fishing with small flies in shallow water is great fun. Not as easy as one would think because they spook easily. Pull pretty hard too.

No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.

Tuna of any species those things are are beast you don't turn them you wait until they wear themselves down before fighting them especially when they get in the 20# plus range.

Heck a 5# blackfin will put a hurting on you in 3000' of water if you hook it on the surface it heads south.

Amberjack are mean as well but a tuna will drag an AJ(reef donkey) backwards.

And if you've never hooked a goliath grouper OMG! I wouldn't put them in pound for pound category because of their size. They pull like you're trying to drag a car off the bottom. We've had them break bent butt tuna rods.

Nothing like Koi. Pound for pound they are very powerful. When my neighbor leaves for the weekend it’s time to break out the gear.

For fresh water, I'd put Rock Bass up there as one of the scrappiest on light tackle. I taught my son to fish catching hundreds upon hundreds of these fish in our local river.
