eagleeye, I have a F150 also a 2015 with a 5.0 liter. Do you pull in haul mode; sport or normal
Mine seems to not want to down shift in normal drive. Mostly on overpasses and hills

2006 Ford F250 Super Duty Lariat with a 6.0 - I only put 8-10k a year on it - I quit driving it in the winter since I did cab corners, door skins, rocker extensions and the bottom of the box and all the cross members. I've done everything to the motor but head bolts, but I've cured all of the things that contribute to blowing head gaskets and I don't pull heavy. It's been a good truck, it's a commitment to own as far as maintenance, but it is very comfortable for all the towing I do in the summer.

My dad and i swap towing duties with our 18 ram 1500s. Love these trucks both have hemis with flowmaster outlaw mufflers and leveling kits. 400 hp is alot of fun in a truck.

Currently towing Alumacraft 205SPT w/250sho on tandom axle with 2012 Honda Pilot 4WD for 100K miles with no issues. Trailer and boat weigh 4-4.5k. Pilot does fine with tranny temps around 190F most of time. Highest I've seen in summer was 215F. Friends F150 ecoboost obviously tows easier but I've had no safety issues with Pilot. I'll be getting a GX460 or Sequioa as my next tow vehicle in springtime.

2016 F150 2wd supercrew, supercharged 5.0. Or sometimes we use the wife's 2012 5.4 Expedition. Both tow great for what I pull around. Sometimes I miss the 3.5 Ecoboost in my last truck though, that engine is a brute down low.
Currently boatless but will always drive a Bass Cat
this is helpful. About the same rig as mine, but most use big trucks and engines that don't fit in my narrow drive space. The 3.5 eco boost is also helpful. I'll ck this out. Many thanks for your comments.

Thank you for all your replies. I am hoping this responds to everyone that replied to me. It looks like most use big trucks for the same reason I do. The ones that have the 6 cylinder Eco-boost, in particular. However, the comments on the Nissan Xterra, Tundra, and GX460 help as well. I know these engines/platforms. Merry Christmas!
