Installing solix 12” mega wiring question

I see Hummingbirds recommendation for wiring installation:

    1-6 Feet 18 AWG
    6-12 feet 14 AWG
    12-24 feet 12 AWG

The power cable that comes with the unit has a 6 foot 18 AWG cable. Isn't the provided 18 AWG cable the weak link in the wiring if you add wiring that is thicker than 18 AWG? Is it really better to add 12 AWG for another 6 feet and tie into the 6 foot cable that Hummingbird provide that is 18 AWG? Or is it just as good to add 16 AWG or 18 AWG wiring from the battery to the power cable Hummingbird provided. This build is for a single unit in my smaller REZ boat. Previously I was running a 12" Carbon HDS in this boat that had 16 AWG wiring run to about 16 feet and I had no issues.

The unit power cord is sufficient to support the load of the unit within its length. When you need to add more wire to extend to the battery is when you need larger conductors connected to the power cord. Length=resistance, you overcome that resistance with larger conductors.

A Humminbird is not a Lowrance, follow Humminbird's installation instructions.
