Cant say without seeing the damage and then the repair. The tank is under pressure so it may not work.
Mine was slightly stripped out and had a tourney the next day...made sure to fill up remote reservoir and just ran it as was....was not a fun job to clean all that oil up afterwords but it is what it is.

If you have an O-ring assortment find one that has an ID that touches the OD of the O-ring on the cap put it on and tighten it down but don’t get crazy with it. Should get you by for a little while.

I just had mine replaced for the same reason. Been told it’s becoming a common problem.

Is the new plug the same thread that the old tank has? My plug doesn’t feel stripped it gets plenty tight but when it’s down all the way it’s cocked just a little to the side and that’s where it leaks without a double O-ring. Thinking someone cross threaded it in the past. And brand new plug does the same thing.
