Humminbird 1159 vs. 1199?

Will an 1159 DI unit give better down imaging images than an 1199? Seems like i have read that the dedicated down imaging units are different than the side imaging/down imaging units?

There are two versions of 1159, one is 1159ci HD Combo which is 2D sonar only and the other is 1159ci HD DI Combo which is 2D sonar and Down Imaging.

The Down Imaging models in every series have a Down Imaging piezo in the transducer.

The 1199ci HD SI Combo does not have Down Imaging. It has composite DI VIEWS that are created by blending the two SI pules. Composite DI is not as sharp as true DI since data from two elements is combined to create the image. Composite DI was added to all current at the time and past SI models in January 2010 via software update, no hardware was ever involved.

The Humminbird Side Imaging units that have a DI piezo in their SI transducers are ONIX SI, SOLIX SI, and Helix MEGA SI in the 8, 9, 10, and 12" models.
