    PROPER SET BACK PLATE

I have just purchased a 1997 191 scx/elite, 1997 mercury 200 efi, trophy 4 blade 25 pitch prop. It current has a 6 " rite hite on it which i am replacing. What is the proper setback for this boat and what do you champion owners suggest in plate with or without hydraulics. thank you for your time loren

    I had 2 191`s, each had a Slidemaster 8", one was a 1999 and one was a 2000 model.

Rapid jack is the absolute best manual plate. If you have cable steering then you need 6" if you have hydraulic then 8" is the ticket.
25 Yamaha M or Merc Tempest are better choices for props.

I have a hydrodynamics 8" hydraulic on my 191, very solid hydraulic plate that not many are aware of as an option.

    Hydraulic?
    Big huge fan of Bobs.
Now I will say I never rigged Steve’s rapid jack hydraulic.
We put a hydraulic on every saltwater flats rig. Bobs is the only one that never came back.

I think you'd like Steve's hydraulic plate Pat. Thing is simple but stout.

That said, doesn't look like he's selling them anymore, no mention or sign of them on his webpage anyway. I wasn't aware that he quit making them.
Purely speculation, maybe because it's a tough market to get into.
Mine hasn't seen much time on the water yet, what you get for buying something part way through a lengthy project.
(thinking out loud - Given his reputation, I would suspect that he'd still support it if anything were to come up....)

I guess if a guy was really interested, you could call him and see if he'd make you one.

Just adding, he said they had quite high production costs, had a hard time competing with others that are made in China and he refuses to have his made overseas. He is looking for another way to make them here in the states. It's too bad, IMO, when a superior product that is made in the USA and as a result costs a bit more, as it should, and can't gain market share. He also said they haven't has a single problem with the ones that are in use. So I'm happy, but I'm sorry it's not an option, for the time being anyway.
